A Covid-era project with Opera’r Ddraig in Cardiff (with whom I’d performed as a student at the RWCMD). Their tour of Mkhululi Mabija and Robert Fokkens’ new opera was cancelled due to the pandemic, so they decided to pivot and turn it into a film of the almost-ready stage show. I was asked to be the filmmaker and recording engineer, a huge undertaking and massive step outside my comfort zone. I’m incredibly proud of what we created, everybody figuring out a new way of working to preserve the feeling of a live show, while also leveraging the opportunities offered by the medium of film.
